A Missionary's Dire Need

by Steve

One of the missionaries our church supported wrote a letter requesting prayer for the drought in the land she was ministering in. There was hardly any produce in the market, and she added that she couldn't even get dog food.
Moved with compassion for the situation, I began praying for her during the pastoral prayer part of the morning service. "Lord, we take so many things for granted. We eat three square meals a day when others around the world can't even get dog food to eat..."
After the service, the chair woman of the missionary circle took me aside and humbly informed me, "She has a dog."

I wonder how many times we hear what we want hear or how many times we do not ask for the specifics of what we are told before we respond?
