Street Evangelist Burnout

I have never been a pastor, but I used to do street evangelism using a sign. I had one on the back of my bicycle as well as using them on street corners. I did this for over twenty years. The last time was in 2005.

I believe my burnout comes from two sources. One is from high expectations that didn't pan out. Part of that was from reading success stories of other street evangelists and also of revivalists, which I was not experiencing. I thought of myself as a revivalist.

The other source is from a form of "caregiver burnout" in which I talked with a very sick friend on the telephone three or four hours almost every night for five years. This left me drained which spilled over to my ministry. We stopped talking this often in 2007 and now only talk once or twice a month, but I still feel drained from before.
